Prinzregententorte

This Bavarian cake’s name gives little away, except perhaps that it is fit for royalty! Created for Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria in the 19th century, the Prinzregententorte (Prince Regent’s Cake) consists of eight layers of delicate thin sponge and luscious chocolate buttercream to represent the Kingdom of Bavaria’s eight districts. While these days Bavaria has just seven districts and most German Konditoreien followed suit by removing a layer from this cake, our Prinzregententorte stays true to the decadent original and is coated in a rich chocolate ganache.
