Our Story

Zuckerhaus is a new home-based patisserie operating out of a Council-registered kitchen in South Geelong. Zuckerhaus is the culmination of our founder and chief cake maker Nick's journey from working in government and communications to patisserie.

Following a life-long passion for all things cake, Nick studied patisserie at Geelong’s The Gordon, where he was recognised with the organisation’s Tourism and Hospitality Award and was a finalist for The Gordon’s Student of the Year 2023. He was also a finalist for the state-wide Victorian Training Awards Vocational Student of the Year in 2023.

While baking has always been a passion of Nick’s, it was through studying German in school and subsequent trips to Germany and Austria, that Nick fell in love with central European cakes and patisserie, the influence of which now guides Zuckerhaus’ menu of cakes and pastries. Even our name is German, meaning ‘sugar house’ representing the essential ingredient in all our cakes and Zuckerhaus’ origin as a home-based business.

From the classic Austrian Sachertorte (Nick’s personal favourite) and Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest Gateau) to more local favourites such as Passionfruit Sponge, Zuckerhaus is a combination of traditional European approaches and more modern Australian appetites. We hope you’ll love our cake selection as much as we do!

Orders

We welcome orders from across the Greater Geelong region and further afield on request. Orders are requested 72 hours in advance and can be placed through our online order form. Please note that your order is not confirmed until you receive an email response, where we will confirm delivery/pick up time and how to make payment.

Payment

Following confirmation of your order, we will email you an invoice for your order through Square. Online payment through Apple and Google Pay, or by Visa, Mastercard, JCB and American Express are all available. Please ensure to pay your invoice in full at least 48 hours prior to delivery/pick up.

Operating Hours

Our cakes are currently available for delivery or collection from South Geelong between 9am and 4pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Zuckerhaus is currently a part-time venture for Nick, and we have limited cake bookings each week. If we are at capacity when your order request comes in, we will let you know and provide alternative suggestions if your cake need is time sensitive. If your cake needs fall outside our usual operating hours, we encourage you to get in touch to see if we can make your request.

A delivery or collection window will be provided to you with confirmation of your order. We kindly request that you let us know as soon as possible if you are running late or are unable to collect/accept delivery at that time. For deliveries, we will contact you when we are on route to your delivery address. If no one is available to accept the delivery and we are unable to contact you after five minutes, your order will be forfeited.

For collections, we will contact you on the day of your order collection. If your order has not been collected more than four hours after the end of the window and we have been unable to contact you, your order will be forfeited.

Cancellations & Refunds

Sometimes life gets in the way, even of enjoying cake! If you need to make any changes to your order, particularly regarding the date you require it, or if you need to cancel your order completely, please email us at nick@zuckerhaus.com.au at least 36 hours in advance of the agreed delivery/collection time. Cancellations received more than 36 hours in advance are eligible for a full refund. After this time, we can only offer a 50% refund. Forfeited orders on the day are ineligible for a part or full refund.

If we need to cancel your order for unforeseeable reasons, we will provide you with a full refund.

Cake Storage

All our cakes contain cream or other dairy products and need to be stored in the refrigerator upon delivery/collection and should be consumed within three days.

We recommend cutting our cakes with a clean, heated knife soon after removing from the refrigerator for neat and easy serving. Some of our cakes may be suitable for freezing - please contact us at nick@zuckerhaus.com.au if you would like to check if your cake is suitable to be frozen.

If your cake is to be displayed at an event, please ensure it is kept out of direct sun, rain and warm temperatures. At room temperature, please ensure the cake is consumed within four hours.
